Folio 188: Rochford to St. Paul. Guines reported an incident about 300 miles off Cape Finistère between the British frigate Aldborough, commanded by captain Bennet, and a French Warship. He also complained about the affair in Africa [Albreda]. He pressed for concessions in Newfoundland. When Rochford pressed the claim of the East India Company, Guines riposted with the French claim about Chandernagore. Rochford replied `that however critical our situation was with the American rebels, his court must not expect to find us in the least disposed to yield the smallest of our rights or pretensions'.
