Folio 57: Letter received from Barcelona. Every day mules and horses are embarked, to join the rest of the expedition at Cartagena. It details what the 152 vessels are carrying; 10,000 infantry, 2 squadrons of dragoons or cavalry, 200 artillerymen with 50 mules. Colonels will have only 1 horse, all other officers will go on foot and be allowed only a small valise and 2 kit cases. The corps commanders can have either a document case and a valise or 1 trunk. The choice of a commander may fall on an officer with experience in America. St. Paul underlined the word America.
