Folio 264: Stormont to Rochford. On hearing from Bartinski that the Russian fleet would soon be leaving the Mediterranean, Vergennes announced the sending of 5 or 6 frigates to enter the Mediterranean in order to deal with the Barbary pirates (Barbaresques). Refersin detail to Masserano's gout. The Maltese ambassador has died. Breteuil is trying to get his relation, the bailli de Breteuil, Maltese ambassador to Rome, to replace him.
Date and place: 1774 Oct 19 Fontainebleau.
