Folio 236: Stormont to Rochford. He has delivered ff. 125, 130. France and Spain and concerting action on hearing of the death of the Pope. They wish to defeat the last effort of the Jesuits to recover their position. Turgot has refused to accept a pot au vin from the farmers general and paid it into the royal treasury. The king struck off all pensions from his privy purse and is anxious to economise. He will face great difficulties in view of the abuses and corruption.
