Folio 220: Stormont to Rochford. He summarises the contents of the memorial [from the princes of the blood] suggesting the terms for restoring the old Parlement. The king, concerned to maintain his authority, is thought to favour the present one. The chancellor's position depends on keeping the present one. The king is determined to refer the issue to the Conseil des Dépêches. Stormont thinks the voting would be: for the present Parlement, the chancellor, Soubise, Boynes, Terray, Muy; for the old Parlement, Maurepas, La Vrillière, Bertin, d'Aguesseau, Fleury. Vergennes, if he arrives in time, would have the deciding vote probably for the present one. The king may accept its vote. The queen favours the old, madame Adelaide, automatically, the present one. He refers to the character of Broglie and to the position of Boynes and Terray.
Date and place: 1774 July 6 Paris.
