Folio 200: Stormont to Rochford. It is said that the king appointed marshal Broglie to the governorship of Metz against the advice of Aiguillon and du Barry. Aiguillon denies this, saying he was the right man for the job. The exile of the comte de Broglie is to continue. More has come out about his intrigues, which brought about his disgrace and contributed to the fall of Monteynard. The baron de Bon has been recalled from Brussels. Others involved are named. Aiguillon would not permit so dangerous a man as the comte to return to court.
Date and place: 1774 Mar 30 Paris.
