Folio 161: St. Paul to Rochford. In spite of Rochford's incredulity, he assures him that nothing could be more authentic than his information and that, if Rochford knew the name of his informer, which he cannot reveal, he would give it full credit. Even though the project [Chevalier's] is of the highest absurdity, it is quite possible owing to `the levity and inconsequence of this nation'. His informant has told him about it, because of its folly and because he hopes Britain can prevent it. He regrets his error about Boynes, who is not a member of the Conseil but put his project forward through Aiguillon. The controller general is being pressed by Bertin for the money and may give way.
