Folio 136: St. Paul to Rochford. Aiguillon and Boynes continue to press the controller general for money for the Chevalier project but he refuses. Chevalier has become immensely rich, been ennobled and been given a military rank. French finances are so bad that theConseil are unlikely to agree to the project. St. Paul assures Rochford that, whatever happens he will receive authentic intelligence of any resolutions taken. If troops are sent, they will ostensibly be for the West Indies and then be diverted to the Isles de France. He refers to the visit of the duke of Gloucester and of Rochford's nephews.
