Folio 123: St. Paul to Rochford. He has learnt on indisputable authority of a plan proposed in the Conseil, which, if adopted, would at once produce most serious consequences. He quotes from a dispatch from Chevalier, commandant of Chandernagore. The Marattas have attacked Delhi and the Mogul emperor has ceded several provinces to them. The emperor has asked for help and Chevalier proposes a force of 15,000 men with other French dispersed throughout India. Aiguillon and Boynes have supported the plan in the Conseil Boynes suggested sending 15,000 men from the Isles de France, replacing them gradually from France. But the controller general refused funds. Beniowski is in that part of the world with 7 or 800 volunteers, waiting for Kerguélin. The supposed plan to go to Formosa could be changed. Opposition in the Conseil is strong. In a postscript he reports the arrival of the duke of Gloucester, accompanied by lord Cholmondeley and captain Jarvis. R.N. He is travelling incognito as the earl of Connaught. Viry is close to Aiguillon. It is said that a marriage is being negotiated between Madame, the dauphin's sister, and the prince of Piedmont.
