Folio 21: Stormont to [Rochford]. It would serve no usefyl purpose to repeat to Aiguillon Britain's position in regard to French arming. She should simply prepare her own. He does not believe Aiguillon will risk war and his position, now that Sweden appears to be safe but he may be reluctant to disband the Toulon fleet for special reasons. Should the fleets meet, Britain must be sure of enough superiority to deal a decisive blow. He will contact Grantham about Spain. Marshal Broglie has been heard to say that France has ordered Durand to demand the withdrawal of Russian troops from Finland and reparation for damage to French trade in the Archipelago, otherwise the Toulon fleet will attack the Russian fleet. Stormont considers Aiguillon the most rash and blind minister that ever lived. He is inconsistent, unlike himself.
