Folio 220: Suffolk to Stormont. The king approves his manner of approach to Aiguillon. He is to press Aiguillon for an unequivocal answer, whether France intends to arm, and, if this is not forthcoming, he is to deliver f.226 and obtain a written assurance that France will desist from naval preparations. Aiguillon must realise that a British fleet, once out, `cannot parade about the seas doing nothing'. Gunning reports that Russia will not attack Sweden, even if peace is made with Turkey.
Date and place: 1773 Apr 14 St James'.
