Folio 203: Stormont to Rochford. Discussion with Aiguillon covered same ground about a French fleet in the Baltic and Britain's reaction. Britain wanted peace but he was being frank to avoid misunderstanding. Stormont did not believe that the Toulon fleet was assembled only for exercises. Aiguillon denied any plan to attack Russia in the Archipelago and any treaty with Turkey. How to help Sweden, if attacked, was not yet decided. If Sweden attacked, France would join against her. Aiguillon was then informed that Russia was not going to attack Sweden. The Toulon fleet has been victualled for 8 months. The Russian minister to France is prince Baratenski (Barjatinski).
