Folio 170: Rochford to Stormont. Aiguillon's claim that France had had no hand in the revolution in Sweden was untrue. Britain cannot stand aside, if France sends a fleet to the Baltic. Rochford has proof that the king of Sweden has asked for money and not troops. He is to watch for what action Spain may take, if France insists on sending a fleet. Stormont may spend a reasonable sum as extra extraordinaries to find out what is happening in French ports. Aiguillon loses his honour, if he does not support Sweden and his power, if he does. Stormont is also to make clear that Britain cannot suffer a French fleet in the Mediterranean.
Date and place: 1773 Apr 7 St James'.
