The French ambassador continues to urge Britain to join with France in opposing the partition of Poland, the increasing power of Prussia and her influence over Russia, the acquisitions of Austria and a Russian attack on Sweden afterpeace with Turkey. Rochford informs him in confidence of his reply, which was that France could have reacted earlier and should now urge modifications of the new constitution on Sweden and cease pressing Turkey to prolong the war with Russia. It was now too late to do much more - `apres dinè moutarde'.
