Folio 19: Stormont to Rochford. No news of the Bucharest congress. The armistice [between Russia and Turkey] continues until the end of March. Aiguillon spoke of Russian confusion over position of Orlov. Orlov was ordered to Reval and asked, as he passed through Petersburg, to pay homage to the empress. The Czernichews were in favour, Panin against. All three powers, who partitioned Poland, are encroaching further. France wants the confederates to make peace with the king of Poland. Branicke is certain that Russia will attack Finland in the Spring. Stormont relates an anecdote, which throws light on the Partition Treaty.
Date and place: 1773 Jan 13 Paris.
