Folio 13: Stormont to Rochford. He is assured that there are letters saying that warships are being fitted out, 18 at Cartagena and 7 at Ferrol, and that there is talk of war in Madrid. He believes Spain is not ready for war and, in any case, would not go to war without France. Boynes may fall, probably succeeded by Estaing. Russia demands exclusive commercial rights with Egypt, Syria and several islands in the Archipelago and Turkey, tired of war, will accept, in spite of French opposition.
Date and place: 1773 Jan 6 Paris.
