Folio 259: Stormont to Rochford. Reports on his audience with the king and with Aiguillon. Aiguillon began to run over the present `tableau' of Europe, covering Poland, and Prussia's plans to send more troops there, fearing a falling-off (démanchement) by Austria and Russia. The king of Prussia was difficult to talk to and Aiguillon clearly dislikes him. Aiguillon asked, if he knew of any secret plan between Austria and Prussia. Aiguillon thinks that Russia badly needs peace. He declined to comment on the East Indies. The king [of France] and his ministers saw Stormont's request for leave in England as reasonable.
Date and place: 1772 Dec 31 Paris.
