Folio 253: Stormont to Rochford. The duc d'Orléans and the duc de Chârtres have been to Court. The reconciliation has been brought about by Aiguillon, whose secret aim is supposed to be to ruin the chancellor, whose fall is thought to be near. In addition to letters from the princes to the king [f.256 enclosed], there appears to be a secret agreement by which the princes do not retract their former protests but are compelled to vote in a Parlement, whose existence they cannot admit. Conti refuses to make his peace on these terms.
Date and place: 1772 Dec 30 Paris.
