Folio 236: Durnford to Rochford. Encloses list of the French fleet [f.238], which he believes to be `very exact'. He compares it with numbers in 1757 and finds the present fleet far superior. In addition the king has taken possession of the ships belonging to the Compagnie des Indes France can send her whole fleet to sea in a month, whereas Britain takes a considerable time to fit out a squadron, even with pressing. France is building in all her ports.
