Folio 150: St. Paul to Rochford. Aiguillon said he knew nothing of the plan to create a kingdom for the elector of Bavaria [see f.89]. Aiguillon makes strong professions of peace, possibly because the king is so opposed to war. He seems only concerned to retain hisposition and has no general policy. The intrigues and dirty methods used by France in every court represent no premeditated plan. The conference at Focsani and the extension of the armistice give hope for peace [between Russia and Turkey]. He refers to Orlov's disgrace. Creutz has visited St. Paul. The duc de Fitzjames, sent to deal with the States of Brittany, has received `the don gratuit' of 2 million livres. The Prussian minister is said to be spreading the rumour that Britain and France are forming an alliance. Encloses f.154.
Date and place: 1772 Nov 4 Fontainebleau.
