Folio 318: Extract from letter of Mr. Benjamin Lester to governor Shuldham. 18 boats from two French vessels fished in the harbour of Port Bonavista and landed to cure their fish and build a landing stage. They took the fish north to Greens Pond. The English fishermen recently combined to throw part of their catch into the sea.
Date and place: 1772 July 4 Trinity [Newfoundland].
