Folio 291: Harcourt to Rochford. Spain is becoming more favourable to Aiguillon. She and France would like the Russians removed from the Mediterranean. Nevertheless the French squadron will return to Brest. 900 men are returning from the Isles de France, because oftheir behaviour, 1500 will replace them. Chevalier has asked to leave India, as a part of the world seemingly abandoned by France. The armistice signed by Simolin with a Turkish officer will last only till the congress meets.
