Folio 248: Harcourt to Rochford. The Turks and Russians are about to sign an armistice. The public revenue has suffered since the exile of the late Parlement. Many people have left Paris. The composition of the French squadron may be reduced, because of agreement between Russia and Turkey. It is rumoured that Broglie may succeed Aiguillon in foreign affairs and that Aiguillon will become minister for War. Harcourt thinks that, because of the `warmth and petulancy' of Broglie's temper, he would be the worst man for that office. The Treaty between France and Genoa states that Corsica will be returned to Genoa, if France ever gives it up.
Date and place: 1772 Mar 25 Paris.
