Folio 209: Harcourt to Rochford. Aiguillon doubted a Turkish Russian armistice. Reported from Vienna that Vioménil is threatened by 6000 Prussians joining some Russians to beseige the castle of Cracow. Harcourt thinks France will impede peace, unless better terms are given to Turkey. She may be preparing a fleet of observation for the Archipelago. Boynes has appointed a relation, Monsieur Monchaton to be administrator, inspector and commissary general of Gorée, and the coast of Guinea. It is planned to build a fort on the river Salem. France still owes money for Corsica to the Genoese, who paid an exhorbitant price for Capraia. The letters of condolence sent by the king and queen [of Great Britain] to Masserano, on the death of his brother, were much appreciated by Fuentes.
Date and place: 1772 Mar 18 Paris.
