Folio 249: Blaquiere to Rochford. He has particulars of prince Lewis' instructions [prince Louis de Rohan]. He is to inform the court of Vienna that France has no intention of interfering in Poland or the Russo-Turkish war. If Russia and Prussia unite to force Turkey to make peace and to end the trouble in Poland, France will take no action, in order to restore her finances. He is to avoid the issue of the 24,000 men but, if this is insisted on, the obligation will be met by men, not money. He is to be reserved in his conduct and give as his own opinion the desirability of Vienna and Versailles conciliating Prussia.
Date and place: 1771 Nov 20 Paris.
