Folio 229: Blaquiere to Rochford. Encloses f.233 and asks if such contracts can be stopped. Van der Heyden is a British merchant of New York. Monteynard and Boynes are working with their engineers and Ternay, lately made governor of Mauritius, on a plan to strengthen the fortifications of the Isle de France. The work will take 4 to 5 years. To make funds available work will be suspended at Fort Garnier in Martinique. He encloses f.237. France, dissatisfied with the situation in Sweden, is said to be refusing to pay the promised subsidy.
