Folio 205: Blaquiere to Rochford. The chancellor has obtained a regiment of cavalry (Royal Bourbogne) for his son, one of the presidents of the late Parlement of Paris. He said the king intends to recall all its members, except six or eight of the most troublesome and seditious, and reimburse them. The chancellor, having suppressed the Parlements, hoped to enjoy the pleasures of society and learn to play whist. Although execrated his spirit, ability, and perseverence are acknowledged. Some think of him and Aiguillon as rivals for power. Aiguillon intends to annex the war office for himself. The chancellor is moving towards overall command. Blaquiere introduced lord Robert Spencer to du Barry. The king came and talked informally for 45 minutes.
Date and place: 1771 Oct 29 Fontainebleau.
