Folio 153: Harcourt to Rochford. The king of Sweden is to receive 750,000 livres on his arrival in Stockholm. No orders yet to replace Austrian troops in Flanders by French. Austria has promised to reveal her intentions as soon as France appoints a foreign minister. Aiguillon seems the most likely. Breteuil tries in vain to see du Barry and is unlikely to go to Vienna. Most of Choiseul's friends will gradually be replaced. Aiguillon carries all before him. The chancellor will summon a new Parlement next week. The memorial from the princes of the blood blames the state of the country on the chancellor and the prevailing faction. He cannot hope for a favourable reply about the Canada reconnaissances, because of the shuffling, confusion, lack of money and general misery.
Date and place: 1771 Apr 3 Paris.
