Folio 74: Harcourt to Rochford. La Vrillière said he did not know enough about the Canada reconnaissances and promised to consult the controller general. Harcourt has assured Vrillière that the men, who had crossed to Calais in order to avoid the press-gangs had returned and the pressing had stopped. There is such confusion since the Parlement has been exiled that a new Parlement may be summoned. The duc d'Orleans and the prince de Conde, with others, were ignored by the king at Versailles and he has ordered them not to hold any further meetings [see f.64]. He reports a reduction in the strength of infantry companies and plans for raising new companies of marines. The king has appointed three directors general [of the army]. Plans for economies and for the militia are reported. Walpole leaves shortly. The prince royal of Sweden and his brother Adolphus are very well thought of. After two months they plan to go to England.
