Description

Folio 53: Harcourt to Rochford. La Vrillière receives the foreign ministers but does not know the issues involved. Intrigues at court about the appointment of foreign minister multiply. Du Barry supports Aiguillon. All naval preparations at Brest are halted. Spainhas 45,000 men in the West Indies. The Parlements of Rouen and Brittany are supporting that of Paris. The chancellor is said to wish that all the Parlements would act together, so that he can treat them as he treated Paris and introduce a new system of laws. Justice is at a stand-still. He refers to the messenger service.
