Folio 153: Walpole to Weymouth. The Spanish ambassador has said that the arming of ships in Britain will have a bad effect in Spain. Walpole had referred him to f.144. Orders have been given to arm ships at Brest. A treaty between France and Portugal is rumoured. Both Choiseul and his enemies will do their utmost to preserve peace.
Date and place: 1770 Sept 30 Paris.
