Folio 234: Harcourt to Weymouth. Letters from Venice confirm reports of naval armaments, an increase in the number of troops and a treaty by Venice with Russia against the Porte. Although Justiniani, ambassador to the Porte, has given assurances in writing of strict neurality, Venetian vessels in Turkish harbours have been advised to leave. Choiseul told him he feared that Chevalier had erected works at Chandernagore, which justified demolition. More about Madamoiselle de Lorraine.
