Folio 173: Harcourt to Weymouth He refers to Weymouth's letter of March 23rd about the payment of money by France [? f.142], to Choiseul's plan to purchase the Canada reconnaissances [see f.144] and to the difficulty of getting money for the maintenance of the EastIndia prisoners. He writes about `the scandalous practice' of sending protestant children from England to be educated in convents in Calais, St. Omer, Boulogne, Montreuil, Dunkirk and Douai. His post-chaise broke down on the way to Versailles, so he wrote to Choiseul instead of seeing him [enclosed f.177]. A meeting of peers and several members of the Parlement takes place at Versailles to discuss Aiguillon's trial, with the king present. The Parlement of Brittany has presented charges.
Date and place: 1770 Apr 4 Paris.
