Folio 57: Harcourt to Weymouth. He informed Choiseul that lord North's appointment in place of Grafton would not affect British policies. Grafton would continue to support the government. A decree by the Conseil d'Etat suspends payment of public debts for eight years. Other measures include the use by the king of the sinking fund, reduction of interest, an additional dixième on all pensions, savings on the ponts et Chaussées, impress from the profits of the farmers general and an expected grant from the clergy. Further taxes are talked of. Du Barry's influence so far does not threaten Choiseul.
