Folio 180: Harcourt to Weymouth. The comte de Stainville, father of Choiseul, has died and Praslin received foreign ministers. The king goes for two days to the Muette. Harcourt refers to the French Swedish treaty, the return of Guines from Berlin, said to be on private business, a new tax on weights and measures and a proposed new government loan issue. No business on the exchange has been transacted for the last six weeks. The dauphin's wedding in May will involve `an unparalleled degree of magnificence, splendour and extravagance'. No news from Turkey. The Monaco gazette mentions considerable armament at Toulon. After what happened to Gordon getting information about other ports will be difficult. The main part of the Spanish navy is stationed at Ferrol.
