Folio 59: Walpole to Weymouth. Choiseul complained that a British ship had fired on a French vessel, previously a naval ship, now let out to an officer and without any guns. He wanted a declaration about expecting merchant ships to lower their pennants on coming into the roadstead. Chaulnes is dead. Two days before, the king had notified Aiguillon of his approval of the purchase [see f.46] and his letter was delivered by du Barry.
Date and place: 1769 Sept 26 Paris.
