Folio 15: Walpole to Weymouth. There are strong objections to the suspension of the exclusive rights of the Compagnie des Indes, mainly because of the order that all cargoes must be unloaded at L'Orient. The Parlement's Remonstrance was on behalf of the shareholders. Choiseul thought the British reply to the Corsican declaration too obscure (entortillé). A regiment of Corsicans is to be raised, commanded by Arcambal. Vaux is said to want to retire. A Polish officer, Mackronowsky, has arrived, a friend of the Great General of the Republic. The king of Poland has sent a person called St. Pol to sound French intentions. The Sardinian minister to England is passing through.
Date and place: 1769 Sept 6 Paris.
