Folio 181: Walpole to Weymouth. Choiseul does not believe that the king can prevent the contest for precedence, even at a private ball. He suggests that `the only effectual way of avoiding such disputes is by making all ambassadors equal or by having none at all'. He relates Gordon's background - ward of Adam Gordon, involved in an affray in Ireland, and stresses his youth. The Swedish minister said no changes in the constitution were to be taken by the diet.
Date and place: 1769 June 22 Paris.
