Folio 227: Walpole to Weymouth. The Parlement [of Paris] refuses to register edicts sent by the king for measures to raise 40 million [livres]. These include the raising of life annuities, the extension of the second vingtième, the continuation of duties on provisions in Paris, the reconstitution of all stocks and an additional tax on coaches and servants. The king may hold a lit de justice. Walpole discussed the East India company' claim and the Canada paper conversion with Choiseul. Châtelet has been fully briefed. He praises Guinand, who is returning. The controller general has been made a minister. The members of the courts of justice are not free to comment on the Howard case.
