Folio 9: Shelburne to Walpole. In view of Choiseul's peaceful professions in the context of Corsica Walpole is to press for the complete demolition at Dunkirk, now that it has been proved that the salubrity of the air cannot be affected and to question his attitude to the Manila ransom. France's action in Corsica has been deceitful. He refers to negotiations for a treaty between France and Prussia and to reports of France hiring troops from Germany. He is to sound out the imperial minister on Vienna's view of France's plans. The break between the house of Bourbon and Rome is growing wider.
Date and place: 1768 Sept 16 Whitehall.
