Folio 120: Rochford to Shelburne. Choiseul defended his position angrily. He has made many enemies, who fear his action in Corsica may precipitate war. The king is averse to business, apprehensive of war and hates troublesome change. Choiseul, if pushed to extremity, would still hold his ground. He claims that Mercy is satisfied. He encloses f.124, a copy of a paper given him by Sorba, from the government of Genoa in reply to a memorial from commodore Spry.
Date and place: 1768 July 7 Paris.
