Folio 115: Rochford to Shelburne. Choiseul greeted him with the cry `nous voilà a la guerre'. He had had an angry letter from Châtelet complaining that he had not been sent a copy of the Corsica treaty and had shown Rochford his peevish reply. If Britain declares war, France can but resist. He also argued against British accusations of bad faith and of deviating from France's pacific principles. Rochford believes France will do almost anything to avoid war.
