Folio 105: Rochford to Shelburne. He encloses ff.107 to 115 about 10 English sailors, who seized control of a French sloop. Choiseul referred to f.90 and complained that no case was ever finished with Britain (qu'on ne finissait rien chez vous). France is very sensitive about reciprocity. Rochford asks for ways of giving France satisfaction, where the British are clearly in the wrong. Orders were sent to the French, Spanish, Neapolitan and Parmesan ministers at Rome to try to persuade the Pope to retract his last Bull and, if he refuses, to leave. The nuncio in Paris is furious. The queen is very weak and cannot last long.
Date and place: 1768 Mar 24 Paris.
