Folio 94: Rochford to Shelburne. Choiseul said that France could not look on quietly if Britain fortified Turks islands. Rochford felt that Rohan's letter was specific about the existence of a battery but had been written before a key letter to Symmer could have reached him. Choiseul showed him a letter from Châtelet, who seemed unwilling to speak out too strongly. He referred to d'Eon. If Britain refused to act, France must demand reciprocity. Choiseul spoke of Spain's interest in Turks islands.
Date and place: 1768 Mar 17 Paris.
