Folio 22: Rochford to Shelburne. The Mediation of 1738 excluded France from intervention by force in Geneva. France has no such intention now. On Tuesday at Versailles the Austrian and Spanish ambassadors went into conference with Choiseul together, in the face ofall the foreign ministers. Most thought it related to the marriage of the king of Naples. Rochford thinks it related to hastening the marriage of the dauphin. He refers to the report of a double marriage between the prince of Piedmont and the late dauphin's eldest daughter and between the comte de Provence and the duke of Savoy's second daughter. The queen is expected to recover entirely. Châtelet will set out next week. He encloses ff.25, 27.
Date and place: 1768 Jan 22 Paris.
