Folio 187: Shelburne to Rochford. Sends various items of information. He must be very discreet in dealing with them. He believes reports that the landgrave of Hessen-Kassel will allow some troops to serve in the pay of France are false. No reports from Gray of hostility towards Britain by Spanish ministers. He has several reports of Portugal using force to repossess herself of forts on the north side of the Grande river. Encloses copy of a letter to Hawke [f.191] about armaments at Brest. He does not accept it but laments lack of intelligence about French ports.
