Folio 209: Rochford to Shelburne. The Parlement continues to pass resolutions likely to offend the court. It has attacked the bishops, of whom there are a great many in Paris, often gathered at the house of cardinal de Luynes. It has ordered the bishops back to their dioceses and been overruled by the king but many have gone. A new tax of a centième denier replaces the old polette, and there is to be a cinquième denier on all imports and re-exports from the American islands. The hereditary prince of Brunswick has left for England.
Date and place: 1767 Apr 8 Paris.
