Folio 49: Rochford to Shelburne. Choiseul said that the papers about the British East India company's claims for maintenance of French prisoners really were missing. [See SP 78/271, f.129]. Hessen-Kassel has dropped her claim to artillery [SP 78/258, 260, 261, 262]. The emperor will stop for the present moves about St. Remo [see SP 78/271, f.129]. In reply to protests at the treatment of British merchants in Bordeaux, Choiseul claimed that the Treaty of Commerce of Utrecht had never been ratified and never observed by Britain, in particular articles 8 and 9.
