Folio 56: Porten to Shelburne. Sartine, lt. general of police, has arrested two strangers coming from Boulogne and distributing counterfeit French crowns en route. Both are in the Châtelet prison. Coins were found on one, John Benson, who said he had got them fromone Carton in London. A report is enclosed [f.59]. Benson can give no reference in London. It is probably not his real name. His companion is John Gottfried Hermann of Hamburg. Enclosed description of Benson [f.63].
