Folio 250: Lennox to Richmond. Fontanieu has been notified French commissary for the liquidation of the Canada paper. The date September 1st for the exclusion from the lottery is a mistake [see f.248]. Encloses f.254. Alexander Murray, brother of lord Elibank, reported the arrest of the dowager lady Wemyss by a lettre de cachet granted by the comte de St. Florentin. Her son lord Elcho and grandson captain Stewart had her taken to a convent on the grounds of her state of mind, the danger of Murray taking her fortune and the scandalous nature of her life with him. Murray said that Elcho had invented his mother's weakness of mind in order to get her money. Choiseul has had her released.
Date and place: 1766 Aug 2 Paris.
